Baden-Württemberg plays an important role in the international knitting sector. Innovative and successful equipment provider, textile producers and end-users cover the whole value-added-chain from engineering of sophisticated textile machinery to the manufacturing of high fashion and functional products.

DITF conducted and presented a study (financed by the industry association Südwesttextil and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Württemberg) detailing the specific challenges and potentials of Industry 4.0 for this knitting industry cluster. The study comprises the strategic framework conditions for digital transformation, innovative development paths and ten key action areas for the cluster on its way to Industry 4.0. Particular attention is put to cross-sectorial aspects and to fast-changing (information) technologies.
