RWTH: ITA won second prize of “International Théophile Legrand Textile Innovation Awards 2019

On 13 March, ITA researchers were awarded the second prize of the International Théophile Legrand Textile Innovation Awards 2019 in Paris. Richard Haas, Alexander Lüking and Dr Robert Brüll received the prize for the development of a novel coating technology for individual glass filaments in the spinning process for the production of a glass-thermoplastic fibre. This coating technology makes it possible for the first time to completely coat and impregnate individual glass filaments. The impregnation allows more fibres to fit into a component - this increases the fibre volume content and thus the strength of the finished component. Fully impregnated fibres are easier to process and thus promise shorter production cycle times.
