SmartX Innovation Hub at A+A 2025
On 4-7 November 2025, Düsseldorf hosted the A+A Trade Fair 2025, the leading international event for safety, security, and occupational health where Judith Bosch represented Textile ETP and the SmartX Innovation Hub to reconnect with key industry players and explore the latest advances in technical and protective textiles.
This year’s edition revealed an industry that has matured significantly, moving from a one-dimensional focus on sustainability toward a more balanced vision where performance, durability, and eco-design converge.
During her visit, Judith met with several members of our Innovation Hub, including companies from Confindustria Moda, as well as industry partners such as Born GmbH and Smart Textiles Hub, who are actively shaping the future of protective and workwear textiles. She also met with colleagues and partners, including Henk Vanhoutte from the European Safety Federation and Daniela Zavec, to discuss the growing role of technical textiles in the protective sector.
Their conversations underscored that while textiles are present in nearly every aspect of daily life, it is essential for the European industry to maintain a strong position as global competitors advance rapidly. The visit provided a clear view of how European and international companies are incorporating smart functionalities, lightweight comfort, and sustainable production into their latest innovations.
One of the most remarkable trends at the fair was the explosion of anti-cut fabrics, an area that has expanded far beyond traditional applications. The variety of materials and techniques presented, from advanced para-aramid blends to engineered weaves and coated knits, showed how protection is now being reimagined for flexibility, breathability, and recyclability. This level of technical depth and innovation dedicated to worker safety demonstrates how far the sector has evolved in terms of both performance and design. Another highlight was the growing attention to cooling fabrics and microclimate regulation systems. From phase-change coatings to moisture-responsive fibres, exhibitors showcased solutions designed to reduce heat stress and enhance comfort during long work shifts, marking a significant step toward healthier and more productive workplaces. The fair also included an engaging fashion show, merging technology and design to showcase the creative potential of protective clothing.
For Textile ETP and the SmartX Innovation Hub, this mission reaffirmed the importance of connecting research, industry, and clusters such as the Italian Confindustria Moda to reinforce Europe’s leadership in technical and high-performance textiles.
