Textile ETP joins Lectra’s ‘Decoding the DPP’ event in Borås, Sweden
On 5 February 2025, Textile ETP Secretary General Lutz Walter participated in the ‘Decoding the DPP’ event hosted by Lectra (one of the Strategic Innovation Partners of our new DigitX Innovation Hub), at the Textile Fashion Center in Borås, Sweden. The event gathered industry leaders and experts to discuss the expected introduction of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for EU clothing products by 2028 and the significant data management challenges that will arise.
Among the key discussions was an insightful presentation by Jonas Larsson from the University of Borås, who shared findings from a DPP pilot project. A crucial question posed during the event was: “Who will take on the role of the ‘DPP General’ within organisations?”. Additionally, the discussion explored the multifaceted potential of the DPP, not only as a tool for sustainability transparency but also as a dynamic consumer interaction channel. The DPP could provide user feedback to brands, guide product owners on reordering, indicate nearby repair services, and even assess resale value in second-hand markets.
Industry experts also exchanged perspectives on key challenges related to DPP implementation:
Navigating uncertain and often complex regulatory processes.
Addressing the gap between regulatory ambitions and industrial realities.
Distinguishing genuine sustainability impact from greenwashing.
Overcoming inefficiencies in data management across supply chains.
Evaluating the readiness of tech solutions amid undefined regulatory requirements.
Supporting supply chain partners in adapting to the DPP framework.
Understanding the ownership and accessibility of critical product data.
Recognising the growing value of data and the risks associated with incomplete datasets.
A big thank you to the entire Lectra team for giving us the opportunity to share and receive such valuable information, and for becoming a Strategic Innovation Partner of Textile ETP’s new DigitX Innovation Hub.
