PESCO-UP partners meet in the Netherlands for the project consortium meeting
On 6–7 May 2025, partners of the PESCO-UP project met in Emmen, Netherlands, for the project consortium meeting, hosted by project partner CuRe Technology - Polyester Rejuvenation. The two-day event brought together PESCO-UP partners from across Europe to review project progress, collaborate on key topics, and examine recent developments in polyester recycling and circular textiles.
Day 1: Workshops on Supply Chain Analysis and Intellectual Property Rights
The first day opened with a presentation by CuRe Technology, followed by a hands-on workshop focused on supply chain analysis and the development of value chain concepts. Participants collaboratively mapped internal and global value chains, identifying key operations and technological needs to support a truly circular system for polyester textiles. In the afternoon, the focus shifted to exploitation strategies and intellectual property rights (IPR), essential tools for maximizing the impact of research results.
The day concluded with a comprehensive review of each work package where project partners shared updates, tackled current challenges, and set the stage for upcoming milestones. During this session, Textile ETP’s Sustainable Programme Officer, Tilla Kross, provided an update on ECOSYSTEX and shared details about the upcoming conference. The Communications Team, Charlotte Denis and Matteo Mainiero, also presented recent communication achievements and outlined plans to further improve the visibility of the PESCO-UP project.
Day 2: Workshop on Life Cycle & Techno-Economic Assessment and Company Visits in Emmen
The second day began with a presentation from Greenwise Campus, highlighting regional sustainability initiatives. This was followed by a workshop on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Assessment (TEA), ensuring environmental and economic dimensions are at the heart of the project’s innovations.
In the afternoon of the second day, the consortium visited three sites in Emmen. At Senbis Polymer Innovations, R&D Project Manager Jeroen van der Vlist showcased their work in biobased polyester, compostable filaments and their development on PET alternatives and using AI to predict material properties. Then the consortium went at GETEC Benelux where Emiel Klootsema guided the group through their high-capacity testing labs who support clients both on and off the area with tests on plastics, water and particles.
The final visit was to our partner CuRe Technology - Polyester Rejuvenation, where R&D Engineer Ramon Pragt, CTO Marco Brons, and Process Operator Tineke van Gelder showcased their recycling plant for polyester from textile waste. The facility has the capability to process polyester waste, including materials from used textiles and mattresses.
