Textile ETP at Waste2BioComp’s final event

On 29 April, Textile ETP Secretary General Lutz Walter participated in thehe Waste2BioComp and BIOMATTERS Cluster final event, which brought together key voices from the bioeconomy for a dynamic session on scaling innovation and turning potential into market-ready solutions.

The morning began with a keynote by Werner Bosmans from the European Commission DG Environment, emphasizing the vital role of policy in supporting a circular and sustainable economy. This was followed by a series of presentations from project partners (CITEVE, Riopele, Propagroup SpA, Universidade da Coruña, nora by Interface, and INESC TEC) showcasing tangible advances across application areas such as textiles, packaging, footwear, and inkjet printing. Jukka Kantola of the World BioEconomy Forum then provided a global perspective on current bioeconomy trends.

In the afternoon, a keynote by Simone Maccaferri of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) set the stage for a panel discussion on market uptake, where Lutz Walter contributed a perspective on the role of textiles in advancing the bioeconomy. Drawing on Textile ETP’s work, he emphasized the need for closer alignment between research, policy, and industrial deployment to ensure that innovations in bio-based materials make a tangible impact across sectors.
