Strengthening Textile Circularity in Europe’s Regions
About RegioGreenTex
In the framework of the European Green Deal, RegioGreenTex is a project promoting the collaboration in research and development for the textile industry between the four major sectors of society – industry, government, research institutes, and the public – in establishing a systematic circular economy business model across the EU.
Objectives
Map the needs and potentiality in the implementation of a circular economy among European regions and clusters and their different levels of economic development.
Build a dynamic recycling textile ecosystem at European level by making demand and offer meet on a shared digital platform.
Support SMEs pilot projects to accelerate the creation, development and use of new textile materials with increased recycled content by sharing technologies and methodologies.
Create five regional textile recycling hubs in line with ReHubs Europe initiative and consistent with the EU textile strategy and with the needs of SMEs.
Generate investment opportunities at regional level.
(Inter)regional dimension
RegioGreenTex is a large-scale, cross-European initiative aimed at transforming the textile industry through systematic adoption of circular economy models. Coordinated by EURATEX and funded under the EU’s Interregional Innovation Investments Instrument (I3), the project runs from January 2023 to December 2025.
The project brings together 43 partners from eleven textile-intensive regions across eight European countries, all committed to supporting their local SMEs: Flanders in Belgium, East-Netherlands, Hauts-de-France and Auvergne Rhone-Alpes in France, Piedmont and Tuscany in Italy, Norte Portugal, North East Romania, Catalunya and Valencia in Spain, and Västra Götaland in Sweden.
In Autumn 2025, Textile ETP published a brochure showcasing a set of pilot projects developed within the RegioGreenTex initiative, each driven by a participating company and aimed at tackling key sustainability challenges
in the textile sector.
RegioGreenTex community engagement
Online animation activities play a pivotal role in sustaining the engagement of SMEs within the digital ecosystem. To stimulate interaction, a series of intra-consortium webinars, the RegioGreenTex Community Talks and the RegioGreenTex Going Green Trainings, took place throughout the duration of the project. These webinars promoted the latest results of the projects and offer advisory green support to SMEs in the textile sector, encouraging dialogue and knowledge sharing in the textile sector, focusing on sustainability and the green transition.
